Shotfield Medical Practice is currently seeking a dedicated and approachable Part-Time Receptionist to join our busy and welcoming reception team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to work in a fast-paced, patient-facing role within a supportive and professional healthcare environment.

We are proud to serve over 13,000 patients across Wallington and surrounding areas, and we are looking for someone who shares our commitment to delivering excellent patient care and administrative support.


Position Details

  • Hours:

    • Mondays: 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM

    • Fridays: 1:00 PM – 6:30 PM

  • Flexibility: You must be willing to provide additional shift cover for sickness and annual leave—sometimes at short notice.


Your Role – Key Responsibilities

As the first point of contact for patients and visitors, you will be responsible for creating a warm and professional experience at reception. Your main duties will include:

Patient Interaction & Reception Duties

  • Greet patients and visitors in a courteous and efficient manner.

  • Handle general enquiries in person and via telephone.

  • Book, amend, or cancel appointments using our clinical system (EMIS).

  • Provide clear guidance on practice procedures, services, and policies.

  • Ensure confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Administrative Support

  • Process prescription requests and liaise with pharmacies and clinical staff.

  • Update patient records accurately, including changes to personal information.

  • Assist with new patient registrations and temporary patient procedures.

  • Maintain tidy and well-stocked reception and waiting areas.

  • Book translation or interpreter services when necessary.

  • Support clinicians with administrative tasks such as arranging chaperones and collecting samples.

Operational Support

  • Assist in opening and closing procedures of the health centre.

  • Sort and distribute incoming mail and manage outgoing correspondence.

  • Help manage recall letters, diagnostic forms, and other patient communications.

  • Provide cross-coverage support to other admin and reception staff as needed.

We are a forward-thinking GP practice staffed by:

  • 4 full-time GP partners

  • 5 part-time salaried GPs

  • 1 Physician Associate

  • 1 full-time Clinical Pharmacist

  • A highly skilled nursing and admin team

Our collaborative approach ensures we deliver the highest quality care to our patients in Wallington, Sutton, Carshalton, and Beddington. Our reception team includes 10 part-time staff members and 2 part-time reception leads, working together in a supportive, respectful environment.


What We’re Looking For – Person Specification

Essential Skills & Attributes

  • Clear and confident verbal and written communication

  • Friendly and professional telephone manner

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Team player with a flexible and adaptable approach

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle sensitive situations with discretion

  • Reliable, punctual, and able to manage time effectively

  • A commitment to confidentiality and equality

Desirable Skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Word)

  • Familiarity with EMIS clinical software

  • Previous experience in a GP practice or NHS setting

  • Understanding of medical terminology

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum: Good standard of general education

  • Desirable: Reception or administration qualification

  • Previous customer service or front desk experience required; healthcare experience is a plus

  • DBS Check: This role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check due to contact with patients and access to confidential information.

  • Training: Full training will be provided, with opportunities for professional development within the practice.
